Recognizing the signs

Someone you care about, such as a parent, grandparent, relative, friend, neighbor, or even yourself, may be in need of a change in their living environment. Even though the signs can exist for a while, it is hard to have those tough conversations. Most people think…

  • What do I say?

  • Is it my place to say anything?

  • They will not listen to me!

  • My spouse will never move from our home!

Having these tough conversations are important. Your loved one may even be thinking of downsizing but is too overwhelmed by all the work that is involved.
We can help.

What to look for

  • Your loved one is living in only 50% of their home.

  • If they can no longer manage the stairs, they probably have not been in their basement or attic for some time.

  • Their house is not as clean as it once was.

  • Their freezer is filled with frozen dinners.

  • There is one ailing parent and the other has become the caregiver.

  • An abundance of possessions are piling up in the home.

If you have answered yes to one or more of these points, then it might be time to hire a Home Again Transitions team!

Make a plan

Before we enter your home to start making improvements, we recommend you take time to think about what changes you would like to see happen. Below are some things you may want to consider.

  • Discuss with family members what they want from your home. It would be unfortunate to donate something that your loved one was hoping to keep. We can coordinate with your family members to receive those items.

  • Gift items you no longer need or have room to keep. These gifts could be for children, grandchildren, friends and other family members. You will find joy when see your possessions in their homes.

  • Think about what is important for you in this process. We will incorporate those in your custom plan. As we get started, you may become overwhelmed so it is calming to have things written down as a reminder of the end goal.

  • Think about what you want to keep. We will work to determine what belongings will fit in a new home. If you have your new home picked out, we will create a floor plan together immediately. If you are remaining in your current home, we will design a floor plan and reorganize your space to create more room.

  • Pick out items that you would like to remove immediately.

  • Your Privacy is very important to us. We follow a strict code of Ethics, drawn up by NASMM (National Association of Senior Move Managers). We do not share any information about you, your family or your home with anyone. However, if there is anything in your home that you do not want us to see; you can remove it or keep it behind a closed door.

  • Everyone has their scary room, closet or drawer that they do not want people to see. We work in a judgement free environment and are here to help you downsize and organize. Remember that you are not alone.
